History of the founding of the Institution

  • History of the founding of the Institution

On May 14 2000 we, a deputation of eight persons, set out for Cox's Bazar from Chittagong under the leadership of Professor Abu Reza Md.Nezamuddin Nadwi, Chairman of Allama Fazlullah Foundation. The purpose of the journey was to assess the feasibility of establishing a joint-venture non-government hospital. The deputation included Principal Rezaul Kabir, Prof. Giasuddin Taluqder, D. Mozaffar Nadwi, Mufti Rahimuddin, and Maqsudur Rahman Ferdous, and I. To repair some troubles of our micro-bus, it stopped beside Chandanish Mozaffarabad College. Getting off the bus, we began to talk to one another under the shadow of a tree. At one point in the conversation, I told them that there are very few standard English Medium Schools in Chittagong and proposed to take the initiative to establish a standard English Medium school that would combine quality with morality. I also told them that all kinds of fees in the school will be very reasonable. I requested them to support me when I would propose it to Professor Abu Reza Nadwi and Principal Rezaul Kabir. I personally proposed to Mr. Abu Reza Nadwi and Principal Rezaul Kabir when I joined Islamia College in 1998 to take the initiative to establish an English Medium School. As it involved a huge amount of money, a lot of time, and hard work to establish an English Medium School, they did not proceed. However, our vehicle took its start again, Prof. Taluqdar, Mufti Rahimuddin D.Mozaffar Nadwi, and Maqsudur Rahman Ferdous strongly supported me when I proposed Professor Abu Reza Nadwi in this regard. At this proposal, Professor Abu Reza Nadwi was also convinced.
We came back to Chittagong city in the evening and it was decided that there would be a meeting on 19 May regarding the establishment of the school. Of course, the persons mentioned above including Dr. Giasuddin Hafeez met together informally under the direction and leadership of Prof. Abu Reza Nadwi several times and discussed matters like selecting trustees for the school, finding a suitable site for it and also other related matters. The meeting took place in Bonanza, an aristocratic hotel and it was followed by a sumptuous dinner. Everyone present in the meeting agreed to establish an English Medium School that would harbor religious values. Professor Dr. Anwarul Hoque Khatibi, Principal Rezaul Kabir, Professor Dr. Giasuddin Hafiz, Prof. Giasuddin Taluqder, Mufti Rahimuddin, Prof. Saiful Islam, Mr. Shahnewaj Siddiqi, Principal Maulana Farid Ahmed Chy, Engineer Abu Taher Siddiqi, Principal Amiruzzaman, Mr. Maqsudur Rahman Ferdous, Professor Dr. Badrudduza, Dr. Ismail Chy, Dr. Amir Hossain Sharkar, Dr. Khurshid Alam Taluqder and I were present in the meeting which was presided over by Professor Abu Reza Nadwi. There were also others present in the meeting but I did not mention their name here, for they did not get involved with the school. For the purpose of establishing a school, another meeting was organized involving the same persons on May 29, 2000. In the meeting, there was a long discussion about selecting the name of the school and it was decided that the name would be fixed in the next meeting. It was unanimously decided in the meeting that the name of the Trust would be 'Darul-Hikma Foundation' but the word 'Education' has been added at the time of registration. In the meeting, there were discussions on the probable name of the school, the starting time of the class, the trustee fee, the number of trustees, etc. It was decided that school activities would be started in January 2001 and many committees were formed in the meeting like a site-selection committee, different sub-committees, and an EC committee. The meeting also decided on the trustee fee and resolved that ten more trustees would be included from the interested educationists. Professor Dr. Abu Bakr Rafique, Principal Fazle Allem, Dr. A J M. Sadeque, Prof. Mohammad Shafique, and Anwarul Islam Chy (CIP) are worth mentioning among them. A Trustee Board of a total of 32 persons was formed and the number was increased to 50 persons later. The next meeting decided to start the school in the name of Chittagong International School (CIS) in affiliation with Cambridge University. The school launched its journey on January 08, 2001, in a magnificent building in Nasirabad Housing Society under the leadership of Professor Abu Reza Nadwi. The aim of the school is 'A ceaseless effort for creating a balanced personality' which was given by Professor Dr. Abu Bakr Rafique, a member of thie committee. Professor Dr. Giasuddin Hafiz carried out the responsibility of secretary from the commencement of the school.

Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.
